INDIE MUSIC REVIEWER SAYS ABOUT MAX JARED
Every now and then, music lovers around the world are exposed to a singer/songwriter who presents a song or two that will leave a lasting impression. Marvin Gaye did it in 1971 with “What’s Going On” and Neil Young did it in 1989 with “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Maybe he won’t get the same exposure, but Max Jared is bound to get the attention of IMR readers after they hear these influential tracks off his soon to be released album, Thoughtless Sounds. Although this album is anything but thoughtless.
Max Jared isn’t only a musician, singer, and songwriter from the Dallas, Texas area, but he’s a philanthropist, environmental activist, and has organized many social action projects in communities around the world. So, when you listen to the lyrics Jared has written, you know they come from a young man with many experiences and who has seen a lot in this world.
The first track, “We’re All Connected” sends a message that doesn’t need much explaining because the title says it all. The music could resemble a Dave Matthews song and Max’s environmental activist background comes out with these lyrics.
We must respect one another
Even the trees as our brothers
How do our actions reflect
the teaching that we’re all connected?
On the track, “Roots,” Max takes on the role of the voice of our generation. “Roots” could be an anthem for this generation to encourage them to strive to make a change in our world because we’ll be in charge next.
Our generation will soon rule the world
So what kind of change comes with it?
It’s so easy to forget
While others are suffering, you don’t feel restless
“Unify” is a fun track that displays a side to Jared that is similar to a few Jason Mraz songs when he delivers his message through his own version of rapping, in a way. With this song, he brings everything in a full circle with lyrics like these:
Unify is what I said
Let’s get it through your thickening head
‘Cause if we don’t join together, we’ll soon be dead
If you’re a fan of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, or Jack Johnson, Max Jared will be a perfect addition to your music collection. His music resembles the mellow sounds of these popular musicians, yet he displays his own unique voice, as well. While Thoughtless Sounds has songs about love and life experiences like many musicians include on their albums, it’s the songs with a deeper meaning that will make you take notice and remember this talented young man. The actual arrangements are just beautiful background music to Max Jared’s meaningful messages to this generation and many generations to come.

New York, NY…Max Jared is that rare kind of artist whose music makes an immediate impact. With an innate talent for crafting memorable pop melodies, the Texas native grips listeners with socially conscious lyrics and a versatile acoustic sound. His musical influences include Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, and John Butler, yet Max has a continuously evolving style uniquely his own. Vaunted hip-hop/dancehall label Shemspeed Entertainment (Matisyahu, Y-Love, Kosha Dillz) is excited to announce that Max is the first artist to be signed to its recently launched folk and rock imprint, Soul Snack Records. Max’s highly anticipated debut album, “Thoughtless Sounds,” will be released via Soul Snack digitally (wearesoulsnack.com) on August 28th, with a worldwide physical release set for August 30th at the House of Yes in Brooklyn.
Max first premiered the tracks comprising “Thoughtless Sounds” at last year’s CMJ Music Festival. Produced by Tom Prasada-Rao and Dan Lee, the album was recorded in 2011 and features renowned musicians Chuck Rainey and Julie Bonk. The music sounds at once timeless and current, with rich material drawing on his global travels and experiences as an environmental and social activist. Talking about what inspires him, Max said, “If we’re lucky, for one moment we can celebrate the awesomeness of our lives and share the same existence. That’s why I write songs: for that one split second when groups of people are singing together, and it seems like the whole world is in that one moment.” “Thoughtless Sounds” drops just in time for fall with breezy, infectious melodies and uplifting lyrics that perfectly capture the universal wonder of being alive.
Growing up in Dallas, Max showed a natural inclination for music from a young age. In middle school, he was forever tapping on his desk during class. His percussive talent was finally given an outlet when he inherited his uncle’s 1960s Apollo drum set, and after four years as a drummer, Max bought himself a guitar with money received from his Bar Mitzvah. He wrote his first song at age thirteen as a way of coping when a close friend was put in a coma by a car accident. After his friend’s miraculous recovery, he performed the song for her and fifty other people; their powerful emotional reaction confirmed for him that music was his true calling. Since then, Max has been writing songs that celebrate life, infused with Jewish themes of social responsibility and tikkum olam (Hebrew for repairing the world). One of his greatest experiences thus far occurred while he was an undergrad at Indiana University, where he sang for the Dalai Lama during an Interfaith Welcoming Service in 2007.
Following the release of “Thoughtless Sounds,” Max Jared will begin a tour across the world including stops in New York and Tel Aviv, Israel. Free mp3 downloads of Talk and Unify, as well as upcoming tour dates, are available on Max’s official website maxjaredmusic.com. Max is currently living in Jerusalem pursuing his master’s degree in Jewish Education while seeking inspiration from the musical history of the region as he continues to develop new songs for his next album.
